What does the Vedic birth chart calculator show?
The calculator shows your Lagna, your Moon sign and nakshatra, and the sign, degree, nakshatra, pada, house and motion of all nine grahas. It then lays out your twelve houses with the planets in each. Everything is calculated in the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsha.
This is the data a Jyotishi reads from. It does not include divisional charts or yogas, which need a person to interpret them. For the dasha periods use the Dasha calculator. What it does give is an accurate set of positions that you can compare with any chart you already have, or bring to a consultation.
How this vedic birth chart calculator is calculated
The calculator converts your local birth time to universal time using the historical time zone of your birth city. It computes the position of the Sun, Moon and five planets, the mean lunar nodes and the rising degree. It then moves everything to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsha.
Planet positions agree with an independent astronomical reference to within about half an arcminute. Houses are whole-sign, so the sign containing your Lagna is the first house. If your time of birth is unknown, the Lagna and houses are left out and the sign positions are shown for noon.

What can you read from a birth chart on your own?
Start with the three anchors: the Lagna, the Moon sign and the Sun sign. Then look at which houses the planets occupy and whether any planet is in its own or exalted sign. The nakshatra of the Moon sets the dasha sequence that a reader will apply next.
Beyond that, interpretation depends on aspects, house lords, dignities and timing. A chart with the same planets in the same signs can read differently depending on the Lagna, so a consultation is the right place for conclusions.

Why does my Vedic chart differ from my Western chart?
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24 degrees behind the tropical zodiac. Most planets therefore fall in the previous sign. Vedic charts also use different house methods.
What if I do not know my birth time?
Tick the box and you still get the sign of each planet. The Lagna and houses are left out, because they need the exact time. The calculator tells you if any planet changed sign on your birth day.
How accurate is this calculator?
Planet positions agree with an independent astronomical reference to within about half an arcminute. The main sources of error are an inaccurate birth time and a birth city entered incorrectly.
