What does the Rahu Ketu calculator show?
The calculator shows your Rahu sign and your Ketu sign, which are always six signs apart, along with the degree, nakshatra and pada of each. With a birth time it also gives the houses they occupy, counted from your Lagna.
Rahu and Ketu are not physical bodies. They are the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, and Jyotisha treats them as shadow grahas. Rahu is the north node and Ketu the south node. They matter in chart reading for the houses they occupy, the planets that join them and the Rahu and Ketu dashas, which last 18 and 7 years.
How this rahu ketu calculator finds the nodes
The calculator uses the mean lunar node, which moves backward through the zodiac at a steady rate. It applies the Lahiri ayanamsha to give the sidereal position of Rahu, and places Ketu exactly 180 degrees away.
Some panchangs use the true node, which wobbles around the mean node by up to about 1.5 degrees. For most birth dates the sign is identical. The two can differ when Rahu was within about 1.5 degrees of a sign boundary, so a reader may check that case.
