What does today panchang include?
Today’s panchang gives the tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (the Moon’s star), yoga (Sun and Moon combined) and karana (half a tithi) for your city, each with the moment it ends. It also gives sunrise and sunset, the three inauspicious periods and Abhijit Muhurat.
Priests and families use the panchang to choose days for poojas, vratas and ceremonies, and to know which tithi a festival falls on. The tithi and nakshatra are taken at sunrise for most observances. The times shown here are in your city’s time zone.
How this today panchang is calculated
The tithi is the angle between the Moon and the Sun divided into 12-degree steps, 30 to a lunar month. The nakshatra is the Moon’s sidereal position in 13 degrees 20 minutes steps, and the yoga is the Sun and Moon positions added and divided in the same way. The karana is half a tithi.
The calculator finds the exact moment each of these changes, so the end times are not rounded or averaged. For Bengaluru on 2 November 2026 the tithi, nakshatra and Rahu Kalam times agreed with Drik Panchang to the minute, and sunrise and sunset to within one minute.
Today Panchang at a glance
| Limb | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Tithi | The Moon’s angle from the Sun, 30 per lunar month |
| Vara | The weekday, from sunrise to sunrise |
| Nakshatra | The Moon’s star, 27 in the zodiac |
| Yoga | The Sun and Moon positions combined, 27 yogas |
| Karana | Half a tithi, 11 karanas that repeat |
How do you read a tithi that spans two days?
A tithi starts and ends at any time of day, so it often covers part of two civil days. For most vratas, the day on which the tithi is present at sunrise is taken. Some observances use other times: Pradosham uses the evening after sunset, and Sankashti uses moonrise.
The pooja pages on this site apply these rules for Ekadashi, Amavasya, Pradosham and Sankashti, with dates for 2026 and 2027. Temples sometimes observe a day earlier or later, so confirm with your temple.

Today Panchang: Frequently Asked Questions
What is today’s panchang?
Today’s panchang is the Hindu almanac for the day: tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana, with sunrise, sunset and the auspicious and inauspicious periods. The calculator above gives it for your city.
What are the five limbs of the panchang?
The five limbs, or angas, are Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana. Panchang literally means five limbs.
Which tithi is it today?
The tithi is shown in the result above with the time it ends. If it ends today, the next tithi begins then, and the calculator shows the one running at sunrise.
Why does the panchang change by city?
Sunrise and sunset differ by place, and so do the weekday boundaries and the inauspicious periods. The tithi and nakshatra are the same moment everywhere, but the date they fall on can differ.
What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya divides the day into eight parts, each given a quality: Amrit, Shubh and Labh are favourable, Chal is neutral, and Udveg, Rog and Kaal are avoided. This calculator shows the daytime periods.
Is this the Drik or the Vakya panchang?
It is a Drik panchang, calculated from the actual positions of the Sun and Moon. Some Tamil traditions use the older Vakya method, which can differ by a short time.
