Saturn Sign Calculator: Find Your Shani Rashi
Your Saturn sign is the zodiac sign Saturn occupied at your birth, calculated in the Vedic sidereal zodiac. Saturn spends about two and a half years in a sign, so birth year decides it. The calculator also gives degree, nakshatra, pada, retrograde status and, with birth time, the house from your Lagna.

What does the Saturn sign calculator show?
The calculator shows the sign Saturn occupied when you were born, its degree, nakshatra and pada, and whether it was retrograde. With your birth time it adds the house from your Lagna. It does not show the current transit, which is covered by the Sade Sati calculator.
Saturn is Shani in Sanskrit. Its natal sign and house are read for discipline, work, delay and endurance. They are different from Saturn’s present transit, which is what Sade Sati depends on. Confusing the two is common, so this page tells you what Saturn was doing at your birth and sends you to the Sade Sati calculator for the transit.
How this saturn sign calculator gets the sign
Saturn moves about 12 degrees a year, so the calculator can find its sidereal longitude for your birth moment with great reliability. It subtracts the Lahiri ayanamsha, then reads the sign and nakshatra. It checks the longitude an hour later to detect retrograde motion.
Saturn is retrograde for about 4.5 months each year and can cross a sign boundary back and forth. Births near those dates may fall in either sign, which is why the degree is shown and why the calculator warns you when you leave out the birth time on a changeover date.

How is Saturn read in a Vedic chart?
Saturn is the natural significator of discipline, karma, service, longevity and delay. Texts describe it as slow and exacting, and the sign and house of Saturn show where patience and sustained effort tend to be asked of a person.
Saturn in its own signs or in exaltation in Tula is read as steady, and in Mesha as uneasy. Shani’s transit over the Moon sign, the Sade Sati, is a separate matter, covered in our Sade Sati calculator.
