Arupadai Veedu Pilgrimage Planner: Sample Routes for Two, Four and Six Days

The six temples are spread across Tamil Nadu, from near Chennai to the far south. This planner groups them by geography so you can choose a route that fits your days. Travel times change, so please confirm each leg with a local driver or operator.

A full Arupadai Veedu pilgrimage usually takes about four to six days by road, because the six temples are far apart. Group them by region: Thiruthani near Chennai, Swamimalai near Kumbakonam, Palani, the Madurai pair of Thiruparankundram and Pazhamudircholai, and Thiruchendur in the south.

Four days for the southern four

If you cannot spare six days, visit Palani, Thiruparankundram, Pazhamudircholai and Thiruchendur in four days and leave Swamimalai and Thiruthani for another trip.

Two days for the northern pair

Thiruthani and Swamimalai can be combined as a two-day trip from Chennai, with a night near Kumbakonam.

Before You Go

Check timings for each temple. Open and closing times, special darshan queues and ropeway hours change on festival days.

Avoid Sashti week unless you want the festival. Thiruchendur draws very large crowds on Soorasamharam day, 15 November 2026. Book travel and stays far ahead.

Keep a margin in the schedule. Hill temples at Palani and Thiruthani involve steps or ropeway queues, so allow extra time.

Dress modestly. Many temples have dress codes.

Plan the vratam alongside. If you travel in Sashti week, read the vratam rules first and decide how strict to be.

Arupadai Veedu Pilgrimage: Frequently Asked Questions

How many days does an Arupadai Veedu pilgrimage take?

Plan four to six days by road for all six temples. Tour operators commonly offer packages of that length. A three-day trip for all six is rarely practical because of the distances between the northern, central and southern groups.

What is the best route for the six Murugan temples?

Group by region: Thiruthani near Chennai, Swamimalai near Kumbakonam, Palani, the Madurai pair, then Thiruchendur in the south. This avoids doubling back. Confirm travel times with your driver.

Can I visit the Arupadai Veedu in two trips?

Yes. A common split is the southern four, which are Palani, Thiruparankundram, Pazhamudircholai and Thiruchendur, in one trip, and Thiruthani with Swamimalai in another. This is easier on time.

Should I visit during Skanda Sashti week?

Only if you want the festival. Thiruchendur is extremely crowded on Soorasamharam day, 15 November 2026, and stays and transport fill early. Many pilgrims visit at quieter times of year.

What is the best season for the Arupadai Veedu?

One source recommends Vaikasi Visakam, in May or June, as the best month, while noting Swamimalai and Palani draw massive crowds then. Choose festival days for atmosphere and ordinary weeks for easier darshan.

Can I take part in Skanda Sashti without travelling?

Yes. You can have the Maha Skanda Sashti Pooja offered on 15 November 2026 in your name and star, or a Milk Abhisheka at Tiruchendur. See the pooja page for how to book.
