8 Brahmins will be performing the 1000 Paath and Havan
About Ganapathi Atharvasheersha Havan :
This havan is prescribed in the Atharva Veda itself. Through the Ganapathi Atharvasheersha Mantra, we invoke the grace and blessings of Lord Ganesh ji so that all the obstacles are removed in our path to progress, we are bestowed with everything. This is one of the most effective spiritual remedies. This is also one of the best poojas one can do at least once in a year so that you don't come across any sort of problems for the rest of the year. Ghee, Lajja, Dhurva grass, 1000 modakas are offered to Lord Ganapathi as holy fire oblations.
When should you get it done ?
Ganapathi Atharvasheersha Homa or Havan is very auspicious to perform for Lord Ganesha especially on a Chaturthi day. As per the Phala shruti, those who get this havan done on a chaturthi day through a well learned and nishtavan brahmin will be blessed to be a Vidyavaan - he or she will be blessed with extremely good education and knowledge.
This havan can be performed on any day during the week. Most auspicious days would be during Ganesha Chaturthi or Sankashta hara chaturthi. Angaraka chaturthi day (Chaturthi that falls on a tuesday) is considered even more auspicious.
It is also sensible to get this done either during your birth day or during the beginning of the new year with an intention that the rest of the year goes smooth and successful.

27 January (Wednesday) Sankashti Chaturthi
About Sankashta hara chaturthi :
Each lunar month in Hindu calendar has two Chaturthi Tithis. The one after Purnimasi or full moon during Krishna Paksha is known as Sankashti Chaturthi and the one after Amavasya or new moon during Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi.
Although Sankashti Chaturthi fasting is done every month but the most significant Sankashti Chaturthi falls in month of Magha according to Purnimant School and in month of Paush according to Amavasyant School.
If Sankashti Chaturthi falls on Tuesday it is called Angarki Chaturthi and it is considered highly auspicious. Sankashti Chaturthi fast is mostly observed in Western and Southern India especially in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
Note - 24-hour clock with local time & DST adjusted for all moonrise timings (if applicable)
Devotees of Lord Ganesha keep fast from sunrise to moonrise on Sankashti Chaturthi. Sankashti means deliverance during troubled times. Lord Ganesha, the supreme lord of intelligence, symbolizes the remover of all obstacles. Hence it is believed that one can get rid of all obstacles by observing this fast.
The fast is supposed to be strict and only fruit, roots (the part of a plant which is below ground) and vegetable products are supposed to be consumed. The staple Indian diet on Sankashti Chaturthi includes Sabudana Khichadi, potato and peanuts. Devotees break the fast at night after sighting of the moon.
In North India Sankashti Chaturthi during Magha month is known as Sakat Chauth. Also Vinayaka Chaturthi during Bhadrapada month is known as Ganesha Chaturthi. Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated by Hindus all over the world as the birthday of Lord Ganesha.
Sankashti Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Sankatahara or Sankatahara Chaturthi among South indian Hindus.
About Ganesha :
GANA in Sanskrit means 'multitude'and 'ISHA' means Lord. GANESH therefore literally means 'THE LORD OF ALL BEINGS'.
Ganesha is the first son of Lord Shiva. Shiva represents the supreme Reality. Ganesha symbolise's one who has realised the Reality. One who has discovered the godhood in him. Such a man is said to be the lord of all beings. Ganesha is known by other names as well. Ganapati, Gajanana, vinayaka, Vighneshwara. Gajanana means 'elephant-faced' Gaja-elephant. Ganesha has four arms. The four arms represent the four inner equipment's of the subtle body, namely mind, intellect, ego and conditioned-consciousness. In one hand he holds an axe and in another a rope. The axe symbolise's the destruction of all desires and attachments and their consequent agitation's and sorrows. The rope is meant to pull the seeker out of his worldly entanglements and bind him to the everlasting and enduring bliss of his own Self.
There is a delightful story about a contest between Lord Ganesha and his brother, Kartikeya. Kartikeya was very proud of his mount, the peacock, and his own speed and efficiency. He challenged Lord Ganesha to a race which would involve encircling the world three times. Lord Shiva signaled to indicate that the race had begun. Kartikeya immediatly climbed atop his peacock and left to circle the whole world. Ganpati just smiled. He encircled Lord Shiva and Godess Parvati thrice. When Kartikeya came back to Mount Kailash, he was very surprised to find Ganpati there. Ganpati told him that ones parents are one's own world and encircling them means encircling the world. He had thus won the race.
Lord Ganapati has several names like Ganesha, Gajaanana, Ekadanta, Lambodara, Kapila, Vakratunda, Surpakarna, Heramba, Vighnaraja, Siddhivinayaka, Mushikavahana etc. signifying his multifarious attributes.

The one who studies Atharvasiirsham becomes qualified to become Brahma himself. He will not be afflicted by any obstacles and attains all-round happiness. He will be released from the five great sins. If one studies this Upanishad in the evening he is absolved of the sins committed during the day; if studied in the morning the sins of the night are washed away; if studied both in the morning and evening, one is totally absolved of all sins. If studied always, one is freed from all obstacles; one obtains the benefits of all the four Purushaarthas (dharma, artha, kaama and moksha). However, one should not teach this to the undeserving student i.e. to the one who does not have faith and devotion to this scripture. If done so, out of greed for wealth, such a teacher becomes a great sinner. If one studies this Upanishad a thousand times according to prescribed Shastras, one achieves whatever is desired for.11 anena ganapatimabhishhinchati sa vaagmii bhavati ..

The devotee who performs Abhishek to the idol of Ganapati becomes a master in the art of speech. The devotee who studies this scripture on the Chaturthi by observing fast becomes a great and famous scholar. This is the final opinion of the Atharvasirsha. The one who practices this Brahma Vidya knows no fear, never.12

By teaching this (atharva) to eight brahmins properly, one becomes bright like the Sun. If the idol of Ganapati is worshipped by chanting this mantra, at the time of the solar eclipse, by standing in a great river like Ganga or Yamuna etc., one gets the full effect of the mantra and becomes a Siddha in that field. He is released from great obstacles, great defects/imperfections and great sins. He who knows this truth becomes the all-knower; he becomes the all-knower. Know this as the end of the Upanishad.14
